Upset Puppy
You may notice when you take your puppy home, it is nervous and may even howl/cry. This is quite normal and is due to the puppy being taken away from his siblings, mother and familiar environment. This is the time to show your puppy lots of love and plenty of patience!
Spend as much time with your puppy as possible and take him with you whenever you can.
If you have another dog that is good with pups, allow your puppy to spend time with this dog and even sleep with the dog, until your puppy settles in, then have as much one-on-one time with the puppy as possible. Feeding We feed our puppies twice a day, morning and night using the following mix:-
Puppy kibble (dog biscuits) - we use a blend of puppy biscuits. We normally mix a bag of Coprice puppy biscuits with a bag of Bonnie puppy biscuits and feed the mix to our puppies.
Puppy mince - we buy mince from our butchers that is specially minced for dogs as it has a good blend of fat in it, as well as goodness knows what else (and we probably wouldn't want to know what else!!).
Powdered milk - we buy a bulk bag of Palastart Lamb Milk Replacer from our local produce shop, ie. CRT or Landmark. Mix the powder according to the instructions on the back of the pack.
We blend the above together to make a porridge type mixture and feed it to our pups morning and night.
We also have a separate bowl of the blended puppy biscuits available for the pups to eat all day long.
Worming Your Puppy When you purchase a puppy from our Stud, you will receive an envelope containing worming instructions for your puppy, as well as enough worming tablets to worm your puppy until it is 12 weeks of age.
We worm our pups and dogs with
Paratak Plus which controls Roundworms, Hookworms, Whipworm and Tapeworm (flea tapeworm and hydatid).
Pups should be wormed fortnightly until 12 weeks of age, then monthly until 6 months of age. Your dog will then need to be wormed every 3 months.
Paratak Plus Dose: 1 tablet per 10kg (divide tablet depending upon puppy's weight).
To weigh your dog first weigh yourself on the bathroom scales. Then pick up your pup and re-weigh yourself. Subtract your weight from the combined weight to determine the pup's weight.
Hide the tablet in the pup's food at feeding time and crush if necessary. Alternatively:-
Grip the pup's muzzle with the thumb and index finger in the corner of the mouth.
Push the jaws open by squeezing the thumb and index finger together, tilting the head back. Keep the jaws open while placing the tablet towards the back of the tongue.
With the tip of your finger push the tablet right over the back of the tongue.
Close the mouth and rub the throat until the tablet is swallowed.
Vaccination When purchasing a pup, it will have had it's first vaccination at six (6) weeks of age. We will provide you with the pup's Certificate of Vaccination which will show that the pup has been vaccinated with a C3 + C2i.
It will be the buyer's responsibility to vaccinate the puppy at 12 weeks of age and then at yearly intervals. You might like to take the Certificate of Vaccination with you to the vets at the 12 week vaccination so the vet can see what the puppy was previously vaccinated with.
